About the play
DNA Dad is a darkly funny and deeply personal new play by Becky Walsh.
When Rebecca discovers the man she thought was her father isn’t her biological dad, the truth cracks open a whole new family story. On stage, different parts of her psyche come to life as characters – the child, the teenage rebel, the pragmatic adult – each battling to make sense of identity, belonging and love.
Mixing sharp comedy with raw honesty, the play explores family secrets, intergenerational stories, and what it means to discover who you really are. Inspired by Internal Family Systems therapy, DNA Dad uses inner voices as live characters, weaving humour and heartbreak into a theatrical search for truth.
Why this read-through matters
This is the very first time DNA Dad will be read aloud in full. The evening is designed as a collaborative step in shaping the play. After the read-through, there will be:
A short questionnaire to capture your feedback
An open discussion about what resonates, what surprises, and what could be sharpened
Your insights will directly help develop the script before it heads towards production.
Join us and be part of the creative process.
This isn’t just a night at the theatre – it’s your chance to help shape one.
